Gujarat government on Friday said various works related to exploration of gas from Krishna-Godavari (KG) Basin have been completed in the last two years at a cost of Rs 2847.25 crore though oil or gas production is yet to commence at the block.

Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), a state owned company, is involved in exploration of gas in KG Basin.

During the Question Hour today in the state Assembly, Congress MLA from Lunavada Hirabhai Patel sought from the State Energy and Petroleum Minister Saurabh Patel details about the progress made in the off-shore gas and petroleum exploration project in KG Basin during the last two years.

Various works related to geo-scientific survey, drilling, engineering and construction have been done within last two years at the block in KG Basin, the Minister said in a written reply.

Patel stated that GSPC had initially done a geo- scientific survey as well as an analysis of the block. He added that batch drilling has been completed for 4 wells.

On the engineering and construction front, GSPC has completed the design, fabrication and installation of off-shore Well Hand Platform(WHP) as well as off-shore Process cum Living Quarter Platform (PLQP). An On-shore Gas Terminal (OGT) has also been constructed to store the gas, Patel said.

To transfer the gas from off-shore PLQP till OGT, an underwater pipeline has been laid by GSPC. The company has also undertaken the process of procuring and installing Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs), Patel told the House.

In his written answer, Patel admitted that Rs 2847.25 crore have been spent by the state government for the KG Basin project within last two years.

Patel said that Rs 2052.31 crore have been spent during 2013-14 while Rs 794.94 crore have been incurred in 2014-15 (as on December 31, 2014).
