It is for the first time in India that a private power producer will lay a dedicated transmission network of more than 1,000 km to supply power to a state.

Adani Power will put up a dedicated power transmission network from Mundra in Gujarat to Haryana to supply 1,424 Mw of power.

Talking to Business Standard on the sidelines of the signing of a power purchase agreement with the government of Haryana in Chandigarh today, the chairman of the group, Gautam Adani, said his firm would be able to commence power supply to Haryana by 2011 and it would be done in one go.

He added that an estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore was being planned for the dedicated transmission network of more than 1,000 km.

The Mundra project is worth Rs 20,000 crore, for which the coal will be imported from Indonesia. Adani said the dedicated transmission network would help to overcome the mismatch between the demand and supply.

He added initial studies and land surveys for laying the transmission network were through. The firm will be able to transmit 2,500 Mw through this.
