As the hour to the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya title suit approached and tens of thousands tried to access the portal, the court website crashed due to traffic overload.
The website had earlier reported that the judgment will be delivered at 4 pm. But the site was inaccessible.
The court had announced that there would be a special webpage on the official website where the gist, the operational part of the order and the final judgment would be published.
The server that hosts the website – reportedly located in Chennai – received several hits as the deadline approached and crashed.
Though the webpage could not be accessed, the verdict topped discussions in the cyber world with netizens tweeting on the situation in their cities and neighbourhoods, and simultaneously appealing for peace.
“Another division of land after 1947 between Pakistan and India. Will it solve matters?” — tweeted one user, while another said: “Thank God the media-wallahs did not hire astrologers/tarot card readers/numerologists to predict the Ayodhya verdict.”

| * The numbers on the graph reflect the number of searches for a particular term relative to the total number of searches on Google. They don't represent absolute search numbers, because the data is normalised and presented on a scale from 0-100; each point on the graph is divided by the highest point or 100. Thus a score of 100 indicates the maximum possible. Source: Google Insights for Search | |||
“Such sensitive matters can be used especially for mobile spams and it is purely circumstantial. People must not get incited with such scary spams that give them bad news,” said Vishal Dhupar, managing director, Symantec India.
Online search giant Google found ‘verdict Ayodhya’ topped the search items in the online world, followed by ‘verdict’, ‘Ayodhya news’ and ‘Ayodhya case’, among others.
Google’s Insights for Search revealed that the web search interest in Ayodhya reached its peak on September 28 and has been on the top since then.
