Apang, who along with NEC secretary HV Lalringa inspected the NEC sponsored Itanagar-Jotte-Balijan Road on May 29, urged the latter for extension of the road upto Gohpur Tinali which would provide an alternative road link to the state capital by linking NH52 and facilitating smooth traffic flow, official sources said.
Accordingly, the chief minister directed chief engineer TH Tayung (PWD western zone) to send the proposal to the NEC for the purpose.
Expressing satisfaction over the smooth progress of the road, the NEC secretary stressed the need for round-the "year maintenance of drainage for protecting the road from erosion due to rain and landslide which are common in the state.
Earlier, while apprising Lalringa about the immense potential of the state in the horticulture sector, Apang said the state was a storehouse of exotic fruits, spices, herbs and medicinal plants.
Promising to donate land for infrastructure development, Apang said lab-to-land transfer of technology alone could help explore the vast potential of the state.
Referring to border trade, Apang said, once border trade centres open, the state would immensely benefit from border trade with the export of horticulture products to the neighbouring countries.
This could be possible only with help of the NEC, he said. While stressing on proper regional planning to remove the dependence of the north east region on states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab for stable food items, Apang said strategy should be on compact area cultivation.
