The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has recommended the Chhattisgarh government to ease the strict enforcement of forest laws to enable socially backward class to access abundant natural resources in the state to ensure its optimum utilization.

Chhattisgarh contributes close to 20 per cent of India’s iron ore reserves and forms an important segment of state’s mineral resources. Considering that Chhattisgarh is home to some of world’s best quality iron ore deposits, ASSOCHAM recommends state government to encourage investors for setting up plants related to heavy machinery and components to generate employment avenues.

“Mining sector contributes close to 8 per cent of the state GSDP and the government should encourage private participation for further growth in the sector,” National Secretary General of ASSOCHAM, D S Rawat said.

The apex chamber has also suggested the state government to provide stimulus package to gems and jewellery sector to invite small investors and jewelers to set up Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Besides, it is also recommended that the government should prepare easy norms and policies for export of finished, polished gold and diamond archeries.

ASSOCHAM recommended that private mining of mineral reserves located in tribal areas of the state must be made permissible to provide access to this potentially rich mining sector thereby developing the social sector of the state.
