In the backdrop of widespread concern over the declining tiger population in the country, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan was today roped in as the brand ambassador of the 'Save Our Tigers' campaign.
The campaign has been initiated by World Worldlife Fund (WWF) India, telecom company Aircel and NDTV.
"I feel it is a national cause and if my face and voice can be used to impress people to work for it then I am happy about it. If I can convince even one individual I will consider it worthwhile," Bachchan said.
The 67-year-old superstar added that he will be actively blogging for the cause and will also share pictures and videos with his fans.
"I'll be blogging about the event. I will also share pictures, videos and commercials we have shot for the campaign," Bachchan said.
"Collective action is the need of the hour. It is for the government, wildlife experts, the media and the public to come together and effect a change. It is our responsibility to not only initiate a public movement but also ensure that it gains momentum across the nation," Bachchan said.
Poaching and deforestation have led to dwindling tiger population which according to the latest census is 1,411.
Cricketer M S Dhoni, footballer Baichung Bhutia and actors Suriya, Kabir Bedi and Shernaz Patel are also part of this campaign.
Big B's son Abhishek has also lend his support to WWF India for preventing the endangered species.
