The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi in conncection with the topical controversy on corruption issues.
Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh had alleged that around Rs 50 lakh was spent on the four-day hunger strike launched by social activist Anna Hazare in favour of a Lok Pal Bill. “We want to know from Sonia Gandhi if she has asked Digvijay Singh and other Congress leaders who are in the joint committee (to draft the Bill on the subject) to make statements to weaken the agitation against corruption,” said BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
“A contract (supari) has been given to the same persons who were given the responsibility of saving the government and ensuring its victory through cash-for-votes on the US atomic agreement. It was very unfortunate that the government and the Congress are adopting various low-level and immoral tactics to defame the anti-corruption campaign,” said Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the party’s vice-president.
On Rahul Gandhi’s letter to retired Supreme Court judge V R Krishna Iyer that he was fighting to correct a rotten system, the BJP leadership asked him to clarify if he was talking about Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the UPA government or years of Congress rule in the country.
