A delegation of ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention to facilitate sanctioning of the proposed Taj International Airport (TIA) at Jewar in Greater Noida.

The MPs said TIA would enable rapid development of infrastructure facilities and creation of better avenues for direct and indirect employment in the state. They said all the major cities in the world as New York, Washington and London have more than one airport as they follow the satellite concept to avoid traffic congestion.

The state government feels that TIA, with provide multi modal connectivity would be the second such airport for the National Capital Region (NCR) and play an important role for cargo due to its location within the proposed Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Investment Corridor and Delhi-Mumbai Freight Corridor.

The parliamentarians noted the delay in sanction of TIA was not only delaying mitigation of traffic congestion in NCR, it was also overlooking the interest of UP by impeding the development of infrastructure facilities.

The delegation also requested the prime minister, to sanction special economic package of Rs 80,000 crore and allocation of six coal blocks for different power projects.
