Chhattisgarh government has banned new recruitment and selection process in different state government departments.

The decision was taken following pending petitions in the court of law pertaining to the revision in the reservation for different classes. In January this year, the Chhattisgarh government had revised the percentage of reservation for different castes in government jobs. While the scheduled tribes (ST) would get 32 per cent reservations, the state government curtailed the percentage for the scheduled caste. The government had reserved 14 per cent jobs for the scheduled caste (SC) candidates while those belonging to other backward class (OBC) would get 12 per cent.

Earlier, the ST caste that comprised state’s major share in population was getting 20 per cent reservation while ST and OBC were getting 16 and 14 per cent respectively.

The decision of Chhattisgarh government to cut short the percentage of ST in government job was challenged in the high court by a few organization and individuals. The matter is still pending in the court of law.

In an order issued by the general administration department, the state government had banned new recruitment and the selection process for the new jobs till the high court pronounced its judgment on the issue. The order had asked all the departments not to issue any advertisement for recruitment.
