The Chhattisgarh government has set paddy production target of 9 million tonnes for the kharif season 2010-11. The state had produced about 7 million tonnes of paddy in the last kharif season. The kharif acreage was slightly increased as the state government had planned to take kharif crops in 4.8 million hectares of area this year, deputy director in the state's agriculture directorate R K Chandravanshi told Business Standard. Buoyant with the reports of a good monsoon this year, the Chhattisgarh government increased the target for paddy production. "We have set paddy target of 9 million tonnes for this kharif season, about 24 per cent more than the last kharif year's target, Chandravanshi said.
