Taking a leaf out of Mamta Banerjee’s Singur book, Congress party in Chhattisgarh had announced that if it comes to power in the state, it would scrap all the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) inked with investors by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

The announcement from the senior Congress leaders came at a rally organized here on Sunday to protest against the alleged rampart corruption during the tenure of incumbent BJP government led by Raman Singh. The leaders of Chhattisgarh’s main opposition party however triggered gun at investors; threatening them to pack off from the state.

The Congress leaders announced that if the party comes to power in the state, it would scrap all the MoUs signed during the tenure of BJP government in the state. They added that the land acquired by the government against the wish of farmers would be returned.

“The intention of Congress party is clear that it wants to protect the agriculture land that BJP government has been allotting to the industries despite protest from the farmers,” Congress general secretary and spokesperson Ramesh Varlyani told Business Standard. The announcement had just come and the party would work on other modalities to give it a final shape soon, he added.

The move of Congress party is seen as a big card to sway the farmers ahead of the next state polls. Chhattisgarh would go to the polls in December 2013 while the Congress party was pulling all the strings to check BJP from retaining power for the third consecutive term.
