The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation has invited the request-for-qualification-cum-request-for-proposal to select the consultant for the ambitious Bengaluru-Mumbai Economic Corridor (BMEC). The proposed corridor will have an influence area spread across Karnataka and Maharashtra, covering an overall length of about 1,000 km.

Upon selection, the consultant will have to prepare a feasibility report for the BMEC region and chalk out a regional perspective plan for the entire BMEC region. The various nodes, which can be taken up after assessing the feasibility of the BMEC region, need to be identified for further development. The applicant will have to develop the strategic framework to create a vibrant economic corridor that is viable in all respects.

“The corridor will facilitate development of a well-planned and resource-efficient industrial base served by world-class sustainable connectivity infrastructure, bringing significant benefits in terms of innovation, manufacturing, job creation and resource security to Maharashtra and Karnataka.

There is a potential to create 2.5 million jobs,” a senior Maharashtra government official associated with the project told Business Standard.

According to the official, the project will be developed on a public-private partnership model and majority of the investment will be accounted for by the private sector.

World-class infrastructure along the corridor is expected to attract increased investments in manufacturing and industrial activity in the two states.
