CVC asks MCD, Delhi Govt to probe 14 complaints of corruption

The Central Vigilance Commission has sent 10 complaints to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and four to Delhi Government, asking them to investigate the alleged financial irregularities.

Besides four complaints were also sent to Punjab National Bank, three to United India Insurance Company Limited and two each to Canara Bank, Delhi State Industrial And Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, Ministry of Information and Technology and State Bank of India.

The CVC, which had received 60 "signed complaints" of alleged corruption in different central and state government run departments, sent one complaint each to New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Transco Limited, the Commission said in its performance report for September.
    
Major penalty was imposed against 11 officers of MCD and three Delhi Development Authority for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices.
    
The anti-corruption watchdog has received a total of 1,238 complaints during the month. Out of which 928 were sent for different state and central Government run departments for necessary action. Whereas no action was taken in 178 complaints as per the Commission's complaint handling policy.
    
It has received complaints of alleged corruption against officers posted in Ministry of Railways, nationalised banks like State Bank of India and Union Bank of India in the month.
    
The CVC is probing alleged financial irregularities in different Commonwealth Games related projects done by civic and construction agencies like DDA, MCD, NDMC and Public Works Department (PWD) besides others.
     
It also made recoveries of over Rs 15 crore after conducting technical examination of several organisations during the month.
    
"The Commission is deeply concerned over continuing delays in filling up the post of Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs) in several key organisations like Hindustan Shipyard Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Bharat Earth Movers Limited, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and NALCO," it said in the report.
