Cyber security strategy to be introduced soon

| The minister said that the proposal was due for confirmation under the 11the five year plan from the Central human resource development ministry headed by Arjun Singh. |
| Speaking at a seminar organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, the minster said there was an upward trend for cyber crimes in the country and corporates were not taking enough measures to safe guard against such crimes. He said there should be specific guidelines for adequate data submission by the corporates. |
| B J Srinath, senior director, Indian computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IT), department of IT, ministry of communications and IT, government of India said the new IT act would be tabled this monsoon session. "The act would have enough provisions for legal safeguards so as to protect the privacy of individuals," he said. |
| Apart from this, the organisation was also developing a National Cyber Security Strategy to deal with cyber crimes, especially in government level. The four basic features of the strategy are""-provision for legal framework, research and development, cyber security assurance system and cyber alert system. |
| "The cyber alert system is our dream project. It will provide umbrella cover to government websites," he said. |
| Also, the department plans to spend Rs 600 crore over research and development in the span of next five years. |
