Dr V Dekal, the forensic surgeon who conducted the post-mortem on the body of Sadiq Batcha, has resigned from the government service. However, the Tamil Nadu government has refused to accept the resignation.
Batcha was a close aide of former Telecom Minister A Raja and one of the prime suspects in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
Dekal said he had put in his papers early this month because he was planning to contest elections.
"I resigned because I wanted to contest the elections as an independent. This is in no way related to the case," he said.
On Thursday, Batcha had committed suicide. He was considered a vital link in the 2G spectrum money trail, was found hanging at his Chennai residence last Thursday.
