New Delhi: A fresh standoff appears to be brewing between Anna Hazare and government with the Gandhian seeking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention over the strict conditions imposed for his indefinite fast from August 16 but was sternly told by him to approach the Delhi police.

Chennai: A US diplomat is caught in a row after her remarks of "dirty and dark" Tamilians, prompting the American Consulate here to term them as "inappropriate".

New Delhi: Congress unleashed a no holds barred offensive against Anna Hazare accusing him of corruption ahead of his planned fast on Lokpal issue from Tuesday, a charge dismissed by the Gandhian as baseless.

New Delhi: Anna Hazare is all set for a full blown confrontation with the government on the Lok Pal bill, giving a call to his supporters to fill up jails all over the country if he is arrested tomorrow after he was denied permission to hold indefinite fast here.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh affirms his commitment to root out corruption but said there is no magic wand to do so and decried hunger strikes as a means to achieve the objective, in an apparent reference to Anna Hazare who is scheduled to begin fast on Tuesday.

New Delhi: The government is faced with a piquant situation with Anna Hazare refusing to come out of Tihar Jail despite being offered a release, 15 hours after he was detained and prevented from going on fast demanding a strong Lok Pal.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court stayed the release of Pune-based stud farm owner Hasan Ali Khan, accused in money laundering cases, on bail which was granted by the Bombay High Court.

Wednesday

New Delhi: In a late night breakthrough in the deadlock between Anna Hazare and Delhi police over the duration of his anti-corruption protest, the Gandhian accepts the offer for 14 days of hunger strike beginning Thursday at  Ramlila Maidan.

New Delhi: Making history, the Rajya Sabha takes up impeachment proceedings against Calcutta High Court judge Justice Soumitra Sen, who claimed he was being victimised and made a "sacrificial lamb" to cleanse the judiciary.

Thursday

Kolkata: Calcutta High Court judge Justice Soumitra Sen says he was "extremely disappointed" at Rajya Sabha's resounding vote to impeach him and ruled out his resignation.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court holds that the minimum eligibility percentage for admission in central universities for OBC category should be at most 10 per cent less than that of general category students.

Friday

New Delhi: Upping the ante, Anna Hazare gives a 12 day deadline to the government to pass the Jan Lok Pal bill failing which he will continue his fast "till my last breath".

New Delhi: In significant changes in draft Land Acquisition Bill, the proposed legislation will now be in force with retrospective effect and provide for five times higher compensation in terms of land to those affected in SC/ST category.
