Within hours of imposing a ban on SMS services for post-paid mobile subscribers in Jammu and Kashmir, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) did a u-turn following an order from the home ministry.
In a statement, DoT said it had decided to withdraw the order restricting SMS services in J&K service area. The state has about 55 lakh mobile subscribers and 12 service providers including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and BSNL.
Earlier in the day, DoT had released an order restricting SMS services for pre-paid customers to 10 per day from midnight. For post-paid subscribers, however, SMSes were banned due to security concerns.
