The utilisation of the money allocated for Mumbai's infrastructure development in this year's Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) budget has met with disapproval.

"In the last year's budget, the administration allocated Rs 2,300 crore for city's infrastructure and in February, they are showing the utilisation of just Rs 525 crore. So, when that amount could not be spent, how can we expect that this year's allocation of Rs 3,674.90 crore will be utilised on Mumbai's infrastructure," said Ravindra Pawar, corporator, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

He added, "Though the budget is good, I doubt its implementation, as the same team of officers involved in making last year's budget have made this year's budget too."

Prakash Ayare, chairman, education committee said, "Last year's budget could not be implemented but this year, we have tried to use all the provisions in the budget. We will be after the officers to utilise the money allocated for different projects."

The municipal corporation has presented the annual budget, in which there has been no respite for the citizens from the burgeoning taxes. The civic body expects to earn Rs 6,715.55 crore as revenue against which, an Rs 6,190.06 crore will be spent from this year's budget.

The richest civic body of the country has allocated Rs 865.77 crore for solid waste management. More than Rs 100 crore has been allocated for fire brigade services and the city's beautification. For the improvement of water supply, the corporation has allocated Rs 1,394 crore, which is the largest allotment.
