The upcoming G-20 Summit at Pittsburgh would be an occasion for the world leaders to evaluate the progress made since the last meeting in London and discuss ways to create a strong foundation for long-term sustained economic growth, the White House has said.

"It will be an important time as people get together to evaluate sort of how far we have come, but also to understand how much further we have to go to create the type of foundation, both in this country and throughout the world, for long-term sustainable both job and economic growth," the White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, said on Tuesday in response to a question on G20 Summit sheduled in Pittsburgh on September 24-25.

"I think obviously there will be a long discussion on where we are in the state of the global economy, progress that we have seen made, quite honestly, since the group got together in late March," Gibbs said.

Gibbs said the Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, has "outlined plans for financial regulatory reform and increased stability in our financial system globally, as what needs to be done to move forward."

In response to a question, Gibbs said climate change financing would be a topic that would be discussed both at the summit and the US General Assembly meeting.
