Govt approves Rs 524-crore road project in Punjab

The project will expedite improvement of infrastructure in Punjab and also reduce time and cost of travel for traffic

The government today approved Rs 523.85 crore road project in Punjab for widening of the Jalandhar-Amritsar section of National Highways under its flagship road building programme NHDP.

"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved six laning of the Jalandhar-Amritsar section of National Highway-1 in Punjab under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase II on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis," an official statement said.

The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 523.85 crore and includes the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities, it said, adding that the total length of the road will be about 20 km.

The project will expedite improvement of infrastructure in Punjab and also reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Jalandhar and Amritsar section of National Highway-1 in Punjab," the statement added.

The project covers Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts of Punjab.

The development of this stretch will also help in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of this region. It will also increase employment potential for local labourers for project activities.
