Gujarat inks pact with GOI, BBNL for optical fiber network

Under the project, all villages of Gujarat will be covered under national optical fiber network

All the villages of Gujarat will be covered through National Optical Fiber Network, as the state government has signed a tripartite agreement with the union government and Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) to set up an optical fiber-based network across Gujarat.

The tripartite agreement was signed between Gujarat government, department of telecommunication, Government of India and Bharat Broadband Network Limited to establish an optical fiber-based network for broadband connectivity to all gram panchayats for universal services to rural population of the State.

Under the project, all the villages of Gujarat will be covered under national optical fiber network. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by S B Chaudhari, deputy secretary from panchayat, rural housing and rural development department, on behalf of the Gujarat government in the presence of Kapil Sibal, union minister for communication and IT in New Delhi on Friday.

Under the scheme of eGRAM Vishwagram Project, total 13,685 eGram centers were established in village panchayats and eGram centers have been equipped with VSAT Broadband connected PCs and being provided the e-service to rural citizens, a government communique informed.

After setting up of Optical Fiber network project, all villages will become totally eVillages, it said.
