The students of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, (IIMC), would like its alumni to fund small infrastructure within the campus.

Innovative ideas, like introducing course web and online library through the IIMC website, were presented by the students to the alumni who attended the IIMC reunion last week.

Increasing the frequency of alumni newsletters, better co-ordination of alumni parties and release of more advertisements to make the alumni aware of the facilities available on the IIMC network, besides a paper presentation programme by the faculty specially for alumni and corporates, were among the other measures suggested by the students.

The director of IIMC, S Chowdhury, asked former students of IIMC to act as brand ambassadors and use their contacts and expertise to enhance the institute's brand name.

It would be beneficial if the expertise of the alumni could be tapped through a professional system to develop new cases, he added.

He also urged the alumni's involvement in upgrading the syllabus and making it more meaningful.Important alumni of the fourteenth batch who attended the reunion includes Sangeeta Talwar, vice-president, human resource and development at Nestle India, Rahul Kansal, executive director of Mudra, Navneet Bali - finance director of the Taj chain and KB S Anand of Asian Paints.

"The new trends in management education will be that of experiential learning and learning by challenges . Negotiating skills will become crucial for success in the field of business", said A Kakkar, chief executive officer of Thomas Cook.

S Malhotra, director of Cyber Media, said the diverse range functions, dealing with stress and high workload, made the IIMC course on of the best.
