The Indian government is roping in around 200 countries and their regulators to pitch in recommendations to amend the drugs and cosmetics act. A senior government official in the know of the matter told Business Standard that regulators like the USFDA and the European drugs regulator have been asked to give their suggestions in order to make the Indian system compliant with global standards. These countries are those to which Indian pharmaceutical companies export their drugs. Among the biggest markets for Indian players are the united states as well as the European market. A senior government official stated," this will help gauge what these regulators are looking for in terms of quality of drugs." On the other hand, the industry feels this might kill the medium and small enterprises. The drug controller is rest assured that only recommendations will be taken and the will ensure that laws do not harm the medium and small players in India. The central drug safety regulator in India has been trying to also bring in line India's good manufacturing standards to global standards.
