The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) expects 12 per cent yearly growth in processed food and fruit exports, APEDA general manager Pravin Gupta said on the launch of Mango fair in Singapore today .

"Demand for India food products is increasing as APEDA continues to exploit new markets," he said after the Indian mango fair was launched in collaboration with Singapore supermarket group NTUC Fair Price.

In 2009-10 APEDA exports rose to Rs 40,000 crore, up Rs 2,000 crore from the sales an year earlier.“Having established networks in the United States in 2007, Japan in 2008 and China 2009, we are targeting new markets to increase Indian food distribution globally,” Pravin Gupta said.

Existing markets are also being sustained, he said pointing out the mango fair as one of the many ways to sustain major markets like Singapore.Mango, the most appealing Indian fruits in foreign markets, has witnessed a bumper harvest of 18-19 MT compared with 15 MT reaped last year.

The Mango fair in Singapore will run from June 3-9 and market the Indian fruit through a network of 200 supermarkets run by the NTUC Fair Price, a state-backed social food enterprise.
