As Science City dons the mantle of being the most happening venue in Calcutta, there is a bustle of feverish activity on the eve of the National Management Convention organised by the All India Management Association and sponsored by ITC Ltd.

Amid the carnival-like atmosphere, a preview of the venue found ITC executives and other organisers from AIMA all over the place each with a walkie-talkie wireless set coordinating incessantly with ITC's headoffice, Virginia House.

ITC has especially flown in Anirudhha Roy, vice-president, Tours & Conferences, of its group company International Travel House from New Delhi to take charge of the overall operations in the three-day mega event, in which top international and national management professionals will give their opinions on the emergence of India as a global corporate entity.

The occasion has afforded a unique opportunity for publishers and multi-media firms to exhibit their wares to potential customers. AIMA has let out some space to hold a mini-exhibition for these firms.

"It is not possible to get so many top management professionals under one roof. We are seeing this event as a good opportunity to indulge in a marketing exercise to interact with potential clients," said Kaushik Chakraborty, educational representative of Tata MacGraw Hill Publishing Co.

Some of the firms who have taken up stalls are GATI Cargo Management, Multimedia HRD Pvt Ltd, DSS Infotech and Infomatics Ltd. There are also facilities to rent-a-cellular phone for the convention.

Besides, every hotel in town is completely full. "We have 228 rooms and all are booked. It makes one reminiscent of the CII convention, when everybody was a somebody on the guest list," said a senior Taj Bengal executive.

The bakground papers include contributions from eminent academicians and scribes such as B B Bhattacharya of Institute of Economic Growth, New Delhi, R Nagaraj of Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai and C Rammanohar Reddy of The Hindu, Chennai.
