T V Mohandas Pai, member of the board and chief financial officer of Infosys Technologies said the city needs to be promoted as a place of culture and the government should promote centres of creativity like drama halls, theatre centres and cinema halls to make it a better place for living.
"Kolkata should be promoted as a centre of creativity," he added.
He was speaking at the sideline of a two-day seminar on Information and Technology.
He said Kolkata should be promoted as a tourist centre and the government should provide for ways and means of creating infrastructure for tourists. This will attract money into the city which will provide a boost to the economy of the place.
When money comes in the city will get a boost and will be promoted by itself. The government should create a pull factor so that IT companies get attracted by themselves.
Pai also said that the state government should develop local tourism as well as international tourism and should provide for more international flights flying directly into the city.
He also said that the level of primary education was another factor that would provide a boost to developing the state as major IT destination.
"The idea should be to pull top 10 to 20 schools and colleges and allow them to expand. This will create intellectual capital and provide for the basic education required for the industry. This will also pull young people to the city for education and they can latter settle or get themselves a job in the IT sector later," he added.
