PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS

In a session chaired by Soli J Sorabjee, former attorney general of India, on "Legal issues in the context of private international law and the diaspora", concerns over malpractices related to NRI marriages especially in Punjab were raised.
The session, on second day of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, also addressed issues related to corporate law and its loopholes.
The idea was to have adequate protection for Indian women from marriage frauds by NRIs and to enable the victims to fight for their rights. The inadequacy of judicial decisions and lack of legislative framework was repeatedly pointed out in relation to private international laws relating to NRIs.
