Talcher MLA Brajakishore Pradhan has written a letter to the Union power ministry for extending the Rs 30 crore rural power supply programme of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to entire Talcher region, instead of covering only villages coming within five km radius of its plant sites. The letter, which bears the recommendation from Chief Minister's Office (CMO), said as the two power plants situated in the region pollute the entire area, it is justified to extend the welfare programme. "Talcher constituency is situated of the bank of river Brahmani. The water of Brahmani is being polluted by the both the NTPC plants. NTPC's Talcher Thermal Power Station is dumping its ash at a distance of 15 km from its plant. NTPC Kaniha is having its ash pond at a distance of eight km from its plant,” the law maker said in his letter addressed to the Union power ministry.
