In a bid to realise the dream of becoming the country's SEZ (Special Economic Zone) capital, chief minister Narendra Modi reviewed 12 SEZ presentations in a meeting held with top executives of six companies at Gandhinagar on Thursday.
 
State Industry minister Anil Patel and minister for Power,Petrochemicals and Finance Saurabh Shah also remained present in a review meeting called by the chief minister to chart plans for way forward.
 
The chief minister advocated a sound infrastucture like water, power and better roads. The companies present in the meeting included Adani Exports, Essar Steel, Cadila Pharma, Reliance Industries, Welspun, Jubiliant Organics, N R Realities and Cadila Healthcare.
 
The corporate leaders were asked to make the presentations on their SEZ, specifically focussing on the developments, review of their proposal and government's role to help in processing out the proposal and make their SEZs functional as early as possible.
 
"In short, it is an exercise to remove red-tapism from the government end to help out these corporate houses to envisage their future vision blue-print," said an official who had attainded the meet.
 
The CM took keen interest in each presentation made by high level officials from various companies. The companies reported progress made in their respective proposed SEZ projects and briefed CM on next stage of development.
 
Of the total of 12 presentations, two belonged to the operating zones "� Kandla SEZ (KASEZ) and Surat SEZ (Sur SEZ). Both also made presentations and informed CM on further prospects.
 
Out of the two Sur SEZ revealed that its exports was Rs 2,337 crore and KASEZ's exports was Rs 1,101 crore in the last fiscal, said S N Sharma CMD of SUR SEZ.
 
He said GIDC also presented its plan to set up five SEZ in the state.
