BJP Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu today criticised the UPA government for "bungling" on Sri Lanka policy saying that it could have used its diplomatic channels more effectively to save the lives of innocent Tamils caught in the war zone in the Island country.

"The government has bungled on the Lanka policy. It could have used its diplomatic channels with Sri Lanka more effectively to save the lives of Tamils who have been left at the mercy of nature in that country. We know that Lanka is a foreign land but India has relations with the neighbour," Naidu said at a press conference here.

He also criticised the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for his decision to go on a fast.

"Against whom is he fasting when he himself is in government. We cannot understand this," he said.

Naidu said that BJP's sympathy lay with the Tamils and not with the LTTE.

Referring to the ceasefire announced by LTTE, he wondered what is the need of a ceasefire when everything is over.
