Accompanied by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress leader Naveen Jindal, today filed his nomination, seeking renomination from Kurukshetra Parliamentary seat, which is a Congress bastion.
Clad in spotless kurta pyjama, the industrialist politician Jindal came to the Returning Officer and District Collector's office to file his nomination papers. In 2004, Jindal had won from Kurukshetra by a margin of 1.70 lakh votes, trouncing INLD leader Abhay Chautala.
Kurukshetra has 10 Assembly constituencies of which nine are with the Congress.
Addressing a public meeting after filing his nomination, Jindal said that Congress party's policy is to help the weaker sections of the society. Listing the achievements of the UPA government, he said that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), signing of the nuclear deal, and Bharat Nirman were some of the major decisions taken by the UPA government.
"In Haryana also we have tried to improve the power supply. If we come back to power we will try and improve it further," Jindal said.
He also mentioned that the National Old Age Pension Scheme of the UPA government, was also successful in Haryana.
Hooda highlighted the UPA's achievements in the last five years including the farmers loan waiver scheme. Speaking about the ongoing economic meltdown, the Chief Minister said that as compared to the US, the situation in India was not bad and the main reason was the UPA's progressive policies.
Urging the people to vote for Jindal, he said "we will carry out the development programmes in future also", and expressed hoped that Congress will get majority in Haryana as well as at the Centre.
