In a daring incident, Naxalites blew up a small bridge on the National Highway (NH)-30 that connected insurgency-hit Bastar region with the rest of the state.

The NH-30 has been the rolling heavy traffic. This is the only NH in the entire Bastar region that connected Raipur, the state capital of Chhattisgarh with Jagdalpur, the divisional headquarters of Bastar region. Unlike other NHs, the NH-30 has normal traffic even in the night hours.

A senior police official from Bastar said that the mine planted by the rebels went off at about 1.30 pm on Tuesday near Kondagaon on the Raipur-Jagdalpur section of NH-30.

The powerful landmine blast severely damaged the bridge that stranded the vehicular movement. When the blast took place, a team of security personnel were patrolling at a distance of 50-meter from the site. The officials suspect that the team could have been the potential target of the Naxalites.

Hundreds of vehicles lined up in the either sides of the site. The goods coming to the Chhattisgarh capital and other northern parts of the state from Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and other southern states are transported from the same route. Soon after getting the information, additional force was sent to the site. The security personnel made a temporarily passage by the side of the damaged bridge and restored the vehicular movement. The senior police officials have also reached the spot and investigating the matter. The blast on the NH had shunned the police authorities probing the incident.
