According to the data provided to the parliament, the government allocated Rs 375 crore for the Indo-Pakistan border roads for 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15. However, it released and used only Rs 120 crore and Rs 100 crore respectively.
The government has been implementing a plan for construction and upgradation of border roads of 690 kilometers of roads along Indo-Pakistan border,¨the government said. As on 30th November this year, the government constructed only 398 kilometers of road on this border.
On the other hand, around 80% of the funds allocated for roads along the Indo-China border have been used by the government. In last three years, the government has spent Rs 4,097 crore on Indo-China border roads, in comparison to Rs 5,030 crore allocation done in the budget estimates. The government has a plan to create 3,796 kilometers of road on this border. However, only 2,225 kilometers of road have been constructed or upgraded.
The government also clarified that construction of border roads along Indo-Bhutan border has not yet commenced, while the development of roads along Indo-Myanmar border is at prefeasibility stage.
