A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee lambasted "rude" CPI(M) cadres holding them responsible for growing distance between the party and the people, the Trinamool Congress today said he should resign owning moral responsibility for the "alienation" of his government.

"He (Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee) publicly admitted at a party rally yesterday that people were alienated from the government because of the wrong doings of his own partymen. Let him and the entire council of ministers resign forthwith and seek the people's mandate afresh," Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee told reporters here.

"It is of no use pointing fingers to the partymen for the alienation from the masses. He should himself own the responsibility for the alienation and resign," he said.

Responding to a question, he said, "It is ridiculous that CPI(M) raises a hue and cry over corruption when CPI(M)'s Party Congress itself had admitted 25 per cent of its cadres were corrupt. The party is corrupt from the top to bottom."

"The Left Front has performed miserably. Fifteen lakh people (of the state) eat only one meal per day," he claimed.

The state assembly elections are due in West Bengal by June 11, 2011.
