PAC document on 2G scam not a report: Speaker

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today gave indications that the controversial document of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on 2G scam could not be called a report.

While Kumar did not say anything directly, the hints she dropped suggested that the draft report submitted by PAC Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi could not have been as per rules.

"There is no confusion. Anybody who feels there is confusion, if they go through rules everything will be crystal clear. There is no grey area. The rules are there. My letter is there," the Speaker said.

She, however, did not share with reporters what she had written to the PAC Chairman.

"I have written a letter to the PAC Chairman. It is not for public (consumption). I do not want to go into any further detail. It is a matter of letters exchanged between me and him (PAC Chairman)," Kumar said.

Joshi had submitted a draft report of the Public Accounts Committee on the 2G spectrum allocation scandal to Kumar on April 30 along with a letter detailing the sequence of events of the meeting of the Committee on April 28.

The PAC meeting on April 28 had descended into chaos after the UPA managed to secure the support of BSP and SP to obtain a surprising majority which "rejected" the draft report on the 2G scam that was sharply critical of Prime Minister, his office and others.

The Speaker had returned the draft report, saying it had not been adopted by the panel.
