Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal today praised Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram. He said the biggest achievements of the UPA government lay with these two ministries.
“The government performed very well. The real issues are related to the economy. While the world was at recession, we were not in recession. Yes, it did impact the export sector. But due to the very sagacious leadership of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, our country has emerged from the crisis very successfully. GDP growth was 7.2 per cent last year and is expected to be 8.5 per cent this year.”
Sibal said the second major achievement of the UPA-II is handling of security. “The home minister has created such an environment that people feel the country’s security is in safe hands. This is certainly true that the country is prepared for any eventualities. We have a sense of comfort.”
