The chief electoral officer (CEO) for Orissa, Alka Panda has sought the co-operation of all political parties of the state in the smooth conduct of general elections. This includes the observance of the model code of conduct during the election process.

Talking to the media after an all party meeting on conduct of polls in the state, Panda said, all the political parties have been requested to observe the model code of conduct effected by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The Commission is emphasising on the strict enforcement of the model code of conduct and the CEO for the state is keeping a close watch on it.

Steps are also being taken to ensure free and fair polls in naxal affected and politically sensitive polling stations.

The candidates will not be allowed to take more than 3 vehicles inside 100 metre radius of the offices of the returning officers and the affidavits should conform to the format 26 and the guidelines of the Supreme Court in this regard. Besides, the political parties will have to fill in form 2 (a) and 2 (b).

Stating that the nomination papers will have to be deposited by the candidates by 3 pm on the specified dates, Panda said, the candidate or the party will have to take certificate from the district electoral officer or the state electoral officer for telecast of advertisements.

They will have to submit the script and the content of the television advertisement before three days of the scheduled dates of telecast and obtain the permission of the Commission.

On complains of violation of model code of conduct, the CEO said, the Commission will take prompt action on the complains.

When some representatives pointed out that the posters of Rs 2 per kg rice scheme are displayed in the retail fair price shops, the Commission promptly ordered for their removal.
