Porbandar Bandh call by the employees of Saurashtra Chemicals, to protest their retrenchment by the new management of Nirma Group, turned out to be a major success.

Most of the main bazaar areas and educational institutes across the city remained closed, supporting the cause of released employees of Saurashtra Chemicals.

However, not a single incident of violence surfaced during the call and employees of Saurashtra Chemicals marched peacefully displaying placards and shouting slogans against Nirma.

They also submitted a letter of memorandum to the district collector.

The bandh was supported by major political parties of the city and other allied associations including Bharatiya Mazdur Sangh, Saurashtra Chemicals Kamdaar Sangh and Saurashtra Chemicals Employees Union.

As the court hearing in this matter is scheduled on Friday, the employees are anticipating positive decision into the matter.

The Nirma management has taken stay orders against the Labour Commissioner's order of re-opening the factory and engaging the employees back on work.
