The state government will build 5,000 houses for primary school teachers in the rural areas at a cost of Rs 350 crore.

Karnataka minister for primary and secondary education Basavaraj Horatti said on Monday that initially 1,000 houses will be built in 61 blocks identified as backward.

Speaking at the state-level function to start children's admission to schools and to distribute free uniforms and textbooks organised by the department of public instruction at Gadag, Horatti said that the government had identified 61 blocks as most backward and as lacking basic infrastructure.

All efforts will be made to provide facilities to these blocks and bring them to the mainstream, he added.
