| Sidhu said, "Deliberate denial and neglect of almost all important issues relating to Amritsar give the impression of some sinister design against this holy city, which is not only the most important city of Punjab, but the most important city of India religiously, strategically and historically." |

| He added, "The prime minister had announced the setting up a special economic zone, the lifeline of Industry in Amritsar on his visit during the pious occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in September 2004. But it is irony that little had been accomplished on the ground." |
