Telangana government has set a target of making available a total of 20,000 Mw of power for meeting the demand in the next three years.

Almost a three-fold increase in the power availability will have to be achieved through various measures including a capacity addition of 6,000 Mw by its own power utility, Telangana Genco, and a 4,000 Mw  project proposed to be set up by the NTPC, according to a statement issued by the chief minister's office.

Telangana chief minister, K Chandra Sekhara Rao, on Monday directed his officials to begin work on the power target through capacity addition as well as by procuring an additional 2,000 Mw of  power from Chattisgarh among other means, it said.

Explaining the existing supply problems to the chief minister, the officials informed that only 4,400 Mw of power was available  as against a total demand for over 7000 Mw in Telangana, the chief minister's office said.
