Terming UPA's return to power as a "good omen", Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said his government would take concrete steps for peace, political stability and to make J&K a model state as promised to him by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"For the permanent peace, political stability and sustained development, all issues pertaining to J&K need urgent focus for amicable solution. The government would take concrete steps towards this direction," Omar said addressing people who had come to his residence to felicitate him on the victory of the NC-Congress alliance in the Parliamentary polls elections.

Saying that Manmohan Singh has promised him to make J&K a model state in the country, Abdullah said the UPA Government, during its last tenure, extended unprecedented support to the development of the state.

The NC-Congress coalition made a clean sweep winning five of the six Lok Sabha seats and two assembly seats.

While National Conference won in Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla parliamentary constituencies in Kashmir, its partner Congress retained Jammu and Udhampur constituencies.

The two parties also retained Sonawar and Bhadrwah Assembly seats which went to by-polls.
