BJP ahead in 257 seats

Ruling Congress was lagging behind with leads in only 36 seats

The BJP-led NDA appears to be heading for a victory in the Lok Sabha elections with the trends in the counting of votes giving the saffron party leads in 257 seats on its own while its allies led in 39 seats.

The ruling Congress was struggling with leads only in 45 seats as per the trends available for 490 seats. Among its allies, NCP was ahead in five, Kerala Congress and RSP one each.

BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was leading in Varanasi by 19255 votes and by over 4.11 lakh votes in Vadodara.

In Amethi, Rahul Gandhi was leading with 1666 votes and Congress President Sonia Gandhi was leading by over 56000 votes in Rae Bareli.

BJP's oldest ally Shiv Sena was ahead in 17 seats, while TDP was leading in 15 seats, SAD in four seats, and LJP and Apna Dal two each and Haryana Janhit Party one.

Among the other political parties, AIADMK and TMC were leading in 30 seats each, ruling BJD in Odisha was leading in 13 seats, TRS in 8, YSR in 8, SP in 8, AAP in 3.
