Opposition Peoples Democratic Party today said it has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Union Minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah for levelling "baseless" allegations against the party leadership.

"Farooq Abdullah has levelled some serious allegations by blaming the PDP especially its patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on the Khrew Pampore attack.

"This contradicts with the version of the DGP and the IGP who had said the attack was not intended against the NC leader," PDP chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said.

"The Election Commission should take a note of the serious allegations levelled by Abdullah," he told reporters here.

Without naming anyone, Abdullah yesterday said those who stand to lose in the elections will try every trick in the book to demoralise party workers and were behind the attack on NC youth leader Yawar Masoodi's residence at Khrew.

"Those who are on the verge of losing (the elections), will try every trick in the book to demoralise us (National Conference activists). But we will not be demoralised," the NC president had said.

Akhtar said Abdullah's "baseless" allegations were a "major violation" of the Model Code of Conduct.

"We also demand an independent probe into the matter," he said.

Accusing the Union minister of using derogatory language and creating bitterness to hide "failures" of the NC-Congress coalition, Akhtar said the alliance is "seeing an eminent defeat in the elections".
