Sonia strikes emotional chord for Rahul at Amethi rally

Congress president Sonia Gandhi Saturday tried to strike an emotional chord here at a public rally and told the gathering that she had given her son Rahul Gandhi to the people of Amethi in 2004.

Canvassing for her son who is seeking re-election to the Lok Sabha, Sonia Gandhi said the Congress vice president had done a lot of development work in the constituency and the remaining work will be finished in his next term.

Pointing out at the opening of skill development centres in Amethi, laying of road networks and delivery of potable water in villages, the UPA chairperson said Congress believed in the development of all.

She also said that work was underway to connect Amethi to the rest of the country through six national highways.

"You have given a lot of love to Rahul and Priyanka and we are grateful for it," Gandhi said and added that despite a lot of pressure, the Congress flag was flying high in the constituency.

She also said that whenever a graft case has been brought to light, the corrupt have been punished by the Congress government.
