As many as 18 out of 30 districts in Orissa have a Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio less than the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) stipulated norm of 60. The overall CD ratio of the state which has been on the downtrend from 2007-08 to 2009-10 has shown a marginal improvement at 63.05 by the end of March 2011 as against 62.85 a year ago, according to data released by the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC).
Besides, 18 out of 25 public sector banks operating in the state have a CD ratio below 60. These banks include Bank of Baroda (58.91), Bank of India (55.93), Bank of Maharashtra (45.18), Canara Bank (58.80), Central Bank of India (58.22), Corporation Bank (16.75), IDBI Bank (25.14), Indian Bank (55.69), Indian Overseas Bank (55.24), Oriental Bank of Commerce (40.88), Punjab National Bank (52.77), Punjab & Sind Bank (11.44), State Bank of India (57.08), State Bank of Hyderabad (17.08), Syndicate Bank (49.16), Union Bank (52.60), United Bank of India (49.32) and Vijaya Bank (36.16).
The PSU banks that have impressive CD ratios are Dena Bank (80.77), State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur (248.04), State Bank of Mysore (199.98) and UCO Bank (76.29)
Among the private sector banks, Federal Bank (58.15), ING Vysya Bank (12.88), Indus Ind Bank (47.12), South Indian Bank (2.15) and Laxmi Vilas Bank Ltd (15.82) have a CD ratio below the RBI specified norm. The private banks having noteworthy CD ratios are HDFC Bank (84.96), Karnataka Bank Ltd (269.07) and Karur Vysya Bank (107.90).
The average CD ratio of all the 25 PSU banks operating in the state stands at 56.67 while that of private sector banks is 67.99.
All the five Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) functioning in the state- Baitarani Gramya Bank (56.28), Utkal Gramya Bank (59.22), Kalinga Gramya Bank (56.84), Neelachal Gramya Bank (51.42) and Rushikulya Gramya Bank (44.54) have a CD ratio below 60. The average CD ratio of these five RRBs stood at 54.74 by the end of March 2011.
The districts in Orissa which have a CD ratio less than the RBI stipulated norm are Angul (49.15), Bolangir (58.21), Cuttack (52.45), Deogarh (31.10), Dhenkanal (55.37), Gajapati (36.27), Ganjam (54.85), Jagatsinghpur 32.21), Kandhamal (39.48), Kendrapara (50.23), Keonjhar (58.25), Koraput (41.03), Malkangiri (22.15), Mayurbhanj (52.71), Nabarangpur (51.20), Nuapada (40.13), Puri (59.24), Rayagada (41.42) and Sambalpur (21.13).
