Indian Bank has got the Reserve Bank of India's nod to open three branches in Sri Lanka, apart from the two that it already has in the country's capital Colombo and in Jaffna. The new branches will come at places where the Tamil population is high.

Indian Bank Chairman and Managing Director T M Bhasin said that the new branches will come at Trincomalee, Hambantota and Batticaloa and will come on stream in the next 12 months.

Indian Bank also applied asked the Ministry to allow it to open a branch at Hong Kong. The bank already has one branch at Singapore.

"We would like to focus on Asian countries, which is an appropriate place for the bank to operate," said Bhasin.
