With at least one member of every family in the state boasting of a bank account, Union minister of state for finance, Pawan Kumar Bansal, on Monday announced that Kerala has become a total banking state.

The southern state becomes only the third in India to achieve the recognition. Goa and Himachal Pradesh had achieved this distinction earlier.

The minister was in the capital to attend the 94th meeting of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC).

The meeting, which also reviewed the progress of the total financial inclusion campaign in the state, found that Kerala has successfully completed its efforts aimed at financial inclusion.
