Nabard gives Rs 29 cr to TN

The cumulative sanction by Nabard under RIDF-XVIII for 2012-13 is now Rs 1,286.30 cr

Nabard has sanctioned a financial support of Rs 29.87 crore to Tamil Nadu as a loan under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF XVIII) for executing infrastructure projects in various sectors like rural warehousing and education (construction of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Community Hostels).

Lalitha Venkatesan, chief general manager, Nabard, Chennai regional office, stated in a release said an amount of Rs 28.37 crore had been sanctioned for construction of 44 hostels across 17 districts for Adi Dravidars and tribal communities. On completion, these projects will benefit 2,200 students from 466 villages of the above districts

An amount of Rs 1.5 crore has been sanctioned for constructing two godowns, in Pudukottai and Karur district of Tamil Nadu.

On completion, these projects will create all-weather storage capacity for 3,000 tonnes of agriculture produce.

The cumulative sanction by Nabard under RIDF-XVIII for 2012-13 is now Rs 1,286.30 crore, of which Rs 152.70 crore is specifically for the development of storage and warehousing facility.

Other infrastructure developments supported during the present year include rural roads and bridges, irrigation, school infrastructure; strengthening of ‘ooranies’ (dug out ponds for drinking water) and pay and use toilets in rural and semi-urban areas among others.
