Punjab National Bank (PNB) has entered into an agreement with Mother Dairy to benefit the milk producers in Uttar Pradesh. The tie-up would ensure better prices for their produce and time-bound payment through smart cards, to be distributed by the bank.
A pilot project has already been launched in Bulandshahr district in western UP, PNB General Manager N K Mehta said. Under the project, about 8,700 smart cards have been distributed to milk producers in Bulandshahr.
“Mother Dairy will collect the milk from the doorsteps of the milk producers, which would be chilled and measured by an automatic machine,” he said. Later, the data for individual milk producers would be sent to the bank.
The pilot project would be completed next month and depending upon the success, we would run the project in 23 districts in the state, Mehta added.
